The pieces here were created by a process that I invented and which I call Fibre de Verre. In this process, the glass pulls apart into two layers that are held together by thin fibers of glass, creating a kind of hollow core between the outside and inside walls of the piece. By the nature of this process and the results, these pieces are fragile. The fragile pieces sometimes break off from ordinary handling and thus the pieces "age" just as we all do. In this way I think of them as a metaphor for life, in which we are forced to leave behind parts of ourselves as we progress and change. These lost pieces change us, but do not make us any less beautiful for their loss. |
